The Unpredictable Behaviour of Matter and Colour in Nicolò Morales’ Creations for Paola Lenti

Red or classic clay, or clay mixed with alumina and quartz, takes on the supple and organic forms of beautiful marine creatures and plant organisms, thanks to blends with varying proportions and the typical process used for brick extrusion.

Nicolò Morales’ creations for Paola Lenti are handcrafted products that originate from a personal interpretation of the age-old tradition of Caltagirone ceramics and an original experimentation with colours.

In Anemone, Helico, Primula, and Stelo, the colour is spread by hand and left deliberately liquid. This approach keeps the colours bright, never fully covering the material. Instead, the material shines through, making each piece shimmering and alive.

“I like to think of myself as an alchemist and in fact I am one, because behind what I make there is no thinking, rather an alchemy of elements that put next to the other produce a reaction. More than colours, I would define them as behaviours.” - Nicolò Morales

These unique and non-replicable objects always unveil new details based on the perspective from which they are observed, their position, and the light illuminating them at that precise moment. When produced in reduced dimensions, they serve as small sculptural components that can be joined or superimposed to create imaginative worlds according to one’s inspiration.

In Nicolò Morales’ works, the decoration is intrinsic. While drawing inspiration from classical canons, he projects himself into the world of interior design with an original and contemporary language.

All the products are designed for outdoor use but can also be used indoors, thanks to the quality of materials, their versatility, and the colours that coordinate with Paola Lenti’s exclusive indoor palette.

Stelo

Decorative structure consisting of majolica elements assembled on a steel support, provided with adjustable extremities for fixing to the floor and ceiling. The elements of Stelo are aligned differently each time according to a different chromatic sequence; a seal in transparent plastic material, placed between each element, prevents breakage.

Anemone

Majolica side table, crafted and decorated by hand with Nicolò Morales’ exclusive colours. Irregularity and uniqueness are sought-after and distinctive qualities of this product.

Helico and Primula

Side tables with bases consisting of majolica extruded elements and round transparent tops in fused glass.

The affinity with Paola Lenti is based on an inborn sensitivity to colour and curiosity that drives continuous exploration of new paths. Identifying and reviving ancient crafting techniques represents an ethical choice for Paola Lenti, the only one that allows for keeping alive and spreading the culture of Made in Italy worldwide.

“I emulate nature very much. I’m a passionate professional diver. When you are underwater, you cannot avoid turning your eyes upwards; vice versa, on the mainland, you feel attracted by the depth of the abyss. Among my finishes, there are marine shades that recall the blue of the galaxy.” – Nicolò Morales
