The awards ceremony for the tenth edition of the Casalgrande Padana Grand Prix has took place on Friday 27 May 2016 in Venice, at the prestigious Tolentini Aula Magna of the IUAV University in the heart of the historic Tolentini Complex, which now houses the rectorate. The prizes has been awarded by the Grand Prix International Panel as part of a ceremony set to feature a keynote address from the architect Simone Sfriso, of TAMassociati, curatorial team of the Italian Pavilion at the 15th Biennale di Venezia Architecture Exhibition.
The Grand Prix – Casalgrande Padana’s International Architecture competition – has been running for over 25 years and is now in its 10th edition, having seen over 1500 architectural projects submitted from all four corners of the globe in its time. It provides a unique snapshot of the evolving world of ceramics and – more generally – of developing trends in design and construction. Yet it has also become a cultural phenomenon, growing and evolving over time to become a benchmark across the entire industry.
Founded in 1990, the Grand Prix shines a light on the technical properties and expressive potential of porcelain stoneware, emphasising their flexibility and eclecticism.
The tenth edition of the Grand Prix international architecture competition, which is promoted and organised by Casalgrande Padana, saw participation from over 150 designers from all over the world. The projects submitted were of an excellent standard, demonstrating the growing popularity of ceramics in the construction industry – and, indeed, the esteem in which the material is held.
All of the works submitted were viewed and assessed by an international panel presided over by Franco Manfredini, the president of Casalgrande Padana. The rest of the panel was made up of: Alfonso Acocella, Giuseppe Cappochin, Riccardo Blumer, Christophe Le Gac, Domenico Podestà, Sebastian Redecke, Matteo Vercelloni.
