While international exhibitions normally have just one poster per year, this year’s Cersaie - the 35th in its history - has chosen two different images to draw attention to its two product sectors: ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings.
In keeping with an eight-year tradition, the ceramic poster image was chosen through the Beautiful Ideas competition in which students at IED in Milan, ISIA in Urbino, NABA in Milan and the Design and Communication course at the Second University of Naples submitted 105 projects.
Out of the many strikingly original ideas presented by the students, the jury consisting of Anna Steiner, Gigi Colin and Aldo Colonetti chose the one by Fabrizio Mariani and Enrico Montecchi, students at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan.
The title of their project is Polimorfo, reflecting the fact that “ceramics is breaking away from its traditional format to become something new. Developments in technology and design are projecting this material into the future as part of a process of constant metamorphosis. The starting point for the design was the pure forms of the square, circle and triangle, which were fused together to create a living, evolving geometry; the false perspectives allow for an open dialogue with each user as they offer scope for different interpretations.”
The concept of the bathroom furnishing poster image has a different origin and is based on the two fundamental concepts of “life” and “design”. The many different but closely-related product sectors that make up the world of bathroom furnishings at Cersaie share a number of features, ranging from technological excellence of products to personal care, from attention to the environment during production and use through to the beauty and functionality of the products themselves.
“Water is trendy” is the headline that sums up the bathroom furnishing world exhibiting at Cersaie: just as there is no life without water, it is design that creates trends and fashion. It is the combination of these two elements that gives rise to the excellence of the products on display in Bologna. The image, created by the agency Interpromex Comunicazione, is an abstract form filled with energy, which plays with the imagination and brings to mind a garment or a curtain - clothing for humans or for the home.
