The "Club-House" in Shanghai won the 2016 Best in American Living Award (BALA) for the International / Multifamily category, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the main US association representing the housing sector. The award annually identifies the most sought-after and creative work on the international scene, made by architects, builders, interior designers and talented architects.
Located in one of the most exclusive areas of the Chinese city, the 72-unit complex - between 418 and 733 square meters, structurally maintained by the Bassenian Lagoni architecture studio and for the interior design by the renowned Italian architect Marco Piva - aims at creating a dialogue between an essentially contemporary style and the local flavor. It is just the dualism between different spaces (classical and modern, international and traditional, private and public) the focus of the research behind the winning concept.
Xijiao 299 - the real name of the lot - was in fact carefully examined in order to be an intimate space, open to conviviality as well: it was actually renamed Club-House for this ambivalence. It stands out to be an innovative example of a living environment where the spaces - elegantly decorated and complemented by finishes in fine materials - also take a worldly and convivial value.
