Designed by the Dutch team of the Roosegaarde Studio led by the designer Daan Roosegaarde, it is a real “hoover tower” created to purify city air and free it from fine dusts on a large scale. The so-called Smog-Free Tower uses patented ion technology - already tested in closed environments such as hospitals - to purify air by 75% in the external public spaces, thus allowing people to enjoy a free renewed healthiness. The innovative macro-purifier can be replicable in all cities with high pollution levels, including Beijing, already interested in the project.
The first prototype of the tower has been installed in Rotterdam; it takes advantage of a modular system of 7.0 × 3.5 m that can clean 30 thousand cubic meters of air per hour: the electricity fields contained in its interior attract fine dusts coming from heating systems, air conditioning and exhaust systems, using wind power and employing not more than 1400 watts of electricity.
