Planetario, the exhibition project conceived by Cristina Celestino for Besana Carpet Lab for the Fuorisalone 2019, represented a tribute to the glorious past of the fitted carpet but with a look towards its future.
The visitors of the Brera Design Apartment were in fact greeted by a spectacular retrofuturistic set-up: a dreamlike domestic environment, inspired by the themes of space and its antithesis, the underwater world, whose elements are in the new carpet collection Nebula, designed by the designer to cover walls, floors and even the ceilings of spaces inspired by the sophisticated interiors of Nanda Vigo, Willy Rizzo and Joe Colombo.
The investigation around the use of this precious fabric in its heyday (the 60s-70s) favored a contemporary reinterpretation, ending in a new range of fitted carpets that evoke an imaginary and fuzzy flora, halfway between the cosmos and the abyss. A material proposal that mixes graphics from botanical tables with an interstellar world made of references to old science fiction films, first of all Solaris by Tarkovsky.
For the creation of Nebula, Besana Carpet Lab designed a digital print that can highlighting the vivid colors of the patterns on several levels, keeping the material soft and thick and giving it an unexpected iridescent effect.
