Studiopepe - Omphalos and Gea Bar
On the occasion of Salone del Mobile 2023 Studiopepe took part in CAMPO BASE, a Manifesto project together with five other Italian architecture studios, examining the state of interior design in a collective exploration of the concept of intimacy.
The project presented by Studiopepe takes its name from OMPHALOS - the 'navel' or center of the ancient world - the most secretive, intimate room, the theatre where our emotions and rituals unfold.
This symbol inspired the Studio to create an environment full of allusions, perceptive stratifications and artistic evocations. Studiopepe examines the concept of intimacy in its own way, designing a narrative that begins with symbolic architectural proportions, down to the single elements linked to archetypes and our collective imagination. Two small rooms on opposite sides stand as two Tokonoma, intimate rooms for meditation and contemplation. In dialogue with the interiors, a soundscape by Painè Cuadrelli made by audio fragments and subtle sound effects.
GEA BAR was created as a side project of Campo Base. The outdoor area of the bar was curated by Studiopepe, which conceived a convivial and performative space with a soundscape made by Painè Quadrelli and a sound installation by the artist Norma Jeane.
The project was made in partnership with Vetreria Bazzanese, who realized hand hatched mirrors, for an immersive intallation to suggest a new kind of relationship between mankind and nature, characterized by a subtle human presence, in mimicry with the elements, here suggested through the presence of triangular forms symbolizing the Earth.
