The Ceramic and Design conference held on 1 July by Confindustria Ceramica and Cersaie, in conjunction with the Naples Order of Architects, included the awards ceremony for the 2015 Ceramic and Design competition, in which Studio Archea Associati won first prize in the institutional category with its architectural design for the Chiesa della Misericordia in Terranuova Bracciolini.
The structure was built using the distinctive Esagona tile produced specifically for façades by Tagina Ceramiche d'Arte.
The religious complex is built on a surface area of 1910 square metres with one underground and two overground storeys. It is currently reaching completion and stands out for its three-dimensional shell, which was created by means of the almost kaleidoscopic use of hexagonal porcelain tiles, some flat and some treated as small prismatic volumes.
The jury, made up of the architects Sebastiano Brandolini, Michele Capuani and Cino Zucchi, assessed 60 projects against the criteria of creativity, functionality and aesthetic taste, taking account of the overall nature of the design, the use of ceramic tiles and the quality of installation.
