The Bologna Design Week will bring the design into the Emilian city, presenting it in all its forms. The cultural event, actually aimed at the promotion of this sector, returns with a new program full of exhibitions and talks, in the wake of the success of the previous edition.
From Wednesday, September 28 to Saturday, October 1, coinciding with Cersaie, the BDW will involve ancient buildings of the city, galleries and new locations, which will be organized to host exhibitions, workshops, expositions, book presentations, conferences and business meetings for design professionals.
The Bologna Museum of History will host the “Miniature Exhibition - 100 classic chairs” in the monumental courtyard of Palazzo Pepoli, curated by Vitra, the organization of classical chairs miniatures, design icons; while at the mezzanine floor the tribute exhibition “Trip-free. Dino Gavina for design”, curated by Elena Brigi and Daniele Vincenzi, will propose some contents of the exhibition “Dino Gavina Stroke of design”, hosted in 2010 at the Bologna Modern Art Museum (MAMbo), and conceived at that time as a research platform open to the future. The Award, named after Dino Gavina, announced by the University of Bologna to celebrate the “inventor-forerunner-innovator”, will be launched on the evening of September 26 and every two years will award designers, companies and business activities that will stand out for the promotion of their work through design.
Moreover, at Palazzo Pepoli there will be the projection of the medium-length movie “Amare Gio Ponti”, directed by Francesca Molteni.
In the eighteenth-century rooms of Palazzo Isolani there will be the stands of companies and designers coming from tiles and materials sector.
The recently renovated spaces of Palazzo Zambeccari will host the exhibition of the A’ Design Award & Competition winners, which will include selected companies and international designers; the ancient Anatomy Theatre, inside the Archiginnasio Library, had been chosen for the “Daily dissections”, lectures on the objects in relation with users body given by Alberto Meda, Marco Zanuso jr. and Marco Zito, introduced by Mario Turci and Flaviano Celaschi.
Being historically a meeting point between fashion, art and design, Galleria Cavour will host events and stands within the luxury gallery and the temporary store Giampaolo Gazziero, signed by Giulio Cappellini and Paolo Castelli.
The unfinished space of the former Bastardini Hospital will be the fascinating stage of the winners of the international competition “Play Design”, promoted by the Municipality of Bologna, IncrediBOL! and the network UNESCO Creative City.
Hydra Palace will host the photographic project dedicated to the interiors of Bologna prestigious locations, curated by Engel&Voelkers, in collaboration with Molteni&C and Vitra.
