The appointment with the exhibition-event dedicated to the materials for the city of the future is now in its second edition. During the next Milan Design Week, “Smart City: Materials, Technologies & People” is going to be presented as a physiological continuation of the previous “New Materials for A Smart City”, launched during the last Milan Fuorisalone.
Promoted by Material ConneXion® Italia with the support of the Municipality of Milan and curated by the architect Giulio Ceppi, the exhibition aims to stimulate ideas and debates around the theme of the Smart City – a model that is increasingly important for this industry - starting from the point of view of its inhabitants, the “smart citizens”.
The renewed concept will be based on the analysis of the next global challenges: the need for new approaches to preserve the ecosystem; the sharing economy; the 3D printing; the security and protection of data and people; the need to feed the population and redesign the relationship between city and countryside; the management of the increased world average age and, finally, a sustainable welfare.
“Smart City: Materials, Technologies & People” will focus on six thematic areas: Advanced Building and Infrastructures (advanced building materials for infrastructures, casings and interiors as well as products for building, renovating and improving structures and living spaces, from acoustics to lighting); Connected City (solutions for the exchange of information, the collection and management of data and the new interconnected life style); Smart living, Smart People (ideas to improve the quality of the surrounding objects in areas like home, office and outdoor spaces); Sustainable and Circular City (technologies focusing on reducing consumption, management of waste and resources with a circular view); Integrated Mobility (materials to support new mobility, ranging from car/bike sharing to the revival of public transport); Food Policies and Urban Agriculture (solutions for a more sustainable approach to food and the increase of green spaces in cities).
The exhibition-event will be host in the spaces of Superstudio Più and, for the first time, will remain on-site from April 17 to May 12 for the Milan Food Week, thanks to the partnership with Seeds&Chips - The Global Food Innovation Summit, which is the first International fair dedicated to companies and digital startups operating in food innovation sector.
For this second edition, there will be the special presence of MIT Media Lab, the interdisciplinary research laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston), which will present a new research project dedicated to the creation of an innovative performing fabric, suitable for the design sector too.
During “Smart City: Materials, Technologies & People”, there will be also a series of meetings, workshops, conferences and events.
