Gerflor Award 2016 for future architects gets under way

The city of the future will be the main theme of the challenge laid down by Gerflor, the specialist in innovative solutions for floor and wall coverings and finishings, which has invited young architects to take part in a competition to design a smart building.

In the wake of the current trend towards ever more sustainable design, the international  Gerflor Award 2016 will revolve around 3rd and 4th year university students' interpretations of the tourist complex of the future, including a space holiday club, a futuristic campsite and a hotel with an exceptional location or interior design.

The competition is an opportunity for participants to express their creativity, and submit futuristic designs, without taking their eye off the feasibility of the project. Entrants can sign up for the initiative any time between 15 October and the deadline of 15 December 2015, by submitting a moodboard summarising their project. After an initial screening phase based on public voting on social networks, the company will shortlist 50 finalists and ask them to illustrate the details and provide a rendering of their project. The winners will be announced on 12 May 2016, and will receive their prizes at the awards ceremony to be held on 26 May.
