The winners of the German Design Award 2017 have been recently announced. It is a famous award sponsored by the German Design Council that each year since 1953 judges and rewards the best design projects of the world. Specifically, the edition – whose award ceremony of the 48 categories will be held in Frankfurt, February 10, 2017 - has counted more than 4,000 attendances, including products and projects from 50 countries, thus achieving a level of internationality of 37%, 5% more than the previous year.
Among others, the ceramic project Earth, resulted from the collaboration between Casalgrande Padana and Pininfarina, has won the prestigious award in the category “Materials and Surfaces”. The porcelain stoneware surface has stood out for the jury by its ability to combine the expertise of two different sectors, creating a collection in which the tactile three-dimensionality is achieved by the conceptual fusion of three different materials: glass, leather and fabric.
Moreover, the combination of aesthetic and technical performance pays attention to sustainability. Earth is in fact available also in the versions Bios Antibacterial Hydrotect and Bios Self-Cleaning, antibacterial, self-cleaning and eco-friendly. The collection is suitable for elegant and sober spaces, but also for dynamic ones, being available in a wide range of colors and different formats.
Mauro Manfredini, the sales and marketing director of Casalgrande Padana, commented: “We have always produced ceramic materials developed with the right balance between the respect for natural resources, environmental protection, technological progress, economic growth and social responsibility. For the Earth collection we wanted to merge two excellences: Casalgrande Padana and a partner, like Pininfarina, who had to be a leader of the Made in Italy industrial design. The result is a line with an innovative design, different from the many imitations of the existing natural materials on the market.”
