The building of a futuristic residential complex in France, the modernization of a major headquarters in Turin, the new design centre of a well-known library in downtown Berlin and a new parish building of the symbolic architecture in Lodi.
These are the winners of the sixth edition of “La Ceramica e il Progetto” (The Ceramics and the Project), the competition organized by Cersaie and Confindustria Ceramica (Italian Industrial Federation for Ceramics) to find out the best project made with Italian ceramic tiles.
The official awarding ceremony, scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday 4 July), will be held at the Church of Santissimo Salvatore, in Palermo, at the end of a conference about ceramics in architecture, promoted by Ceramics of Italy in collaboration with Proviaggi Architettura, which will involve prominent figures of the industry.
The jury - composed of the architects Mario Cucinella, Cherubino Gambardella and Fulvio Irace - judged 68 submitted projects by using criteria of creativity, functionality and aesthetic taste of the building, considering the whole design, the use of ceramic tiles, the quality of the installation and the environmental enhancement made possible by the sustainability properties of the material.
For the category Residential, the winning project is “The Sky above Asnières-sur-Seine”, in France, by the architecture studio 5+1AA Architectures made with Casalgrande Padana tiles.
The project "CPN 21" won the special mention: it is a residential building in Milan designed by the studio DGO_Diego Grandi Office, which used Lea Ceramiche’s tiles.
A tie was the final result for the category Commecial/Hospitality: the project "Nuovi Uffici Reale Group" in Turin made by the Iotti+Pavarani Architects Architetti and Artecna, which used the tiles by Cotto d'Este, and "Taschen Store Berlin" in Berlin, designed by the studio Licitra Stampanoni Montù, where the ceramic tiles by Ceramica Francesco De Maio were installed.
The first Honourable Mention went to the project “Hotel Esplenade Tergesteo”, in Montegrotto Terme, realized by the Contract studio with Kronos tiles. The second Mention was given to “San Lorenzo Central Market”, in Florence, for which the Archea studio used Tagina tiles.
Regarding the category Institutional/Urban Design, the winner was the "New Parish Complex of the Diocese of Lodi in Dresano, Milan", by the studio Corvino+Multari that chose Casalgrande Padana tiles.
Finally, the project “A History” in Faenza, by two students of the Higher Technical Institute Emiliani, Giovanni Calvi and Davide Valenti, won the Honorable mention with the use of Gigacer tiles.
