After the inauguration of the Parisian showroom, held on September 7, Marazzi prepares for Cersaie 2017 by announcing the launch of a new branded ceramic collection dedicated to contemporary architecture, in the amazing setting of the Bulgari Hotel in Milan. Mauro Vandini (AD of the Group) and the creative duo curating the project, Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, describes it in preview.
The new entry made of porcelain stoneware actually has been partially unveiled during the Fuorisalone, in Milan, within the installation Augmented Surface. "Grand Carpet" is based on the creative reinterpretation of the decoration concept on 120x240 cm maxi-format slabs, making it suitable for continuous indoor and outdoor or horizontal and vertical surfaces, of both residential and contract areas.
“We decided to search in the oriental decorative tradition a design pattern that could enhance the large format of the slab and the warm nature of the ceramic paste”, the designers tell. “Grand Carpet contaminates the design of the Oriental carpet with Kolam tradition of flooring ephemeral decoration with rice, but also with the Mehindi, the Indian temporary ritual tattoo. The antique and non-permanent decoration, capable of reinforcing and evoking the sense of place and honoring a rite of belonging, is very coherent to us in order to enhance a material without the predominance of the decoration on matter. Grand Carpet goes beyond the typical architecture paradox of decorations, to be neutral but also strengthen the nature and purpose of the project, maintain a main tone, but to be extremely pertinent in giving spaces identity and awareness”.
