Marmomac 2017: spotlights on lithic international market

From September 27 to 30, 2017, the event dedicated to lithic sector will be again at the Fiera di Verona for the 52nd edition of the Marmomac, the fair focusing on natural stone chain, including raw, semi-finished and finished products, machineries, manufacturing technologies and accessories and the latest applications in architecture and design.

The exhibit – insisting on the advantage of the internationality, with an increase of the participating foreign companies, due to new arrivals from Argentina, Georgia, Ireland, Mexico and Slovenia – aims at reflecting the evolution of an industry that in 2016 recorded a global quarrying activities’ increase of 3% on 2015, with 145 million tons of marble and granite extracted.

For what concerns Italy, although the export of stone in 2016 slowed by 4% (after six consecutive years of growth) stopping at a counter value of 2.1 billion euros, the added value of the materials processed by Italian companies achieved the highest price in history, reaching a price of 60 euros per square meter, against a competitors’ average that stops at 32 euros.

For this reason, Marmomac will focus on Made in Italy by exhibiting in the pavilion’s space of 3,500 square meters ‘The Italian Stone Theatre’, an event where three exhibitions - 'Territory & Design', 'Virtuose Machines' and 'Soul of City' - will represent the iteration of stone, processing technology, experimentation and design through cutting-edge projects by famous architects and designers.

There is also space for the third edition of the International Stone Summit: the world conference dedicated to natural stone involving the leading international marble associations.

Moreover, the ‘Icon Award’ (firstly introduced in 2016) has been confirmed again: it is aimed at identifying the future image of Marmomac 2018 campaign, selected among the works exhibited at the 'The Italian Stone Theater'. For the sixth year there will be Marmomac & the City, which will bring 12 works and stone installations in the streets and courtyards of Verona's old city center. Finally, the 11thBest Communicator Award of Marmomac will be bestowed to recognize the attention and originality of the outfitting of the exhibition of the different companies.
