It includes: the Catalans RCR, winners of the Pritzker Prize 2017; the North American Peter Eisenman; Liz Diller, designer of the famous New York High Line; Francis Kéré, emerging African architect and curator of the next Serpentine Gallery Pavilion; Patricia Urquiola; Winy Maas; Philippe Rahm; Sam Jacob; Petra Blaisse (author of the new Porta Nuova Park); the Chinese urbanist Lee Xianing; finally, Italians professionals such as Alessandro Mendini, Cino Zucchi, Benedetta Tagliabue, Italo Rota, Carlo Ratti, Mario Bellini, Michele De Lucchi, TAM associati.
These are just some of the well-known international architects who will join the Milan Arch Week, seven days of events dedicated to architecture, under the artistic direction of Stefano Boeri, from 12 to 18 June in Milan and promoted by the Municipality of Milan, the Polytechnic and the Triennale.
Starting with a ceremony in the Catella Foundation, the week will take place in two areas: on Tuesday June 13 at the Patio of the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic of Milan and from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 in the Triennale Halls and Gardens. Here, a specific section will be dedicated to young emerging Italian and international groups, such as Parasite 2.0, Raumplan, Small, Fosbury Architecture and Waiting Posthuman Studio.
The event will include walks, scooter rides and guided tours in the Milanese architecture and the city, behind the Museum Houses of Milan designers (among others Castiglioni, Albini, Magistretti) and wonderful buildings (Villa Necchi Campiglio, the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, Casa Boschi Di Stefano), new places of culture, abandoned staging areas and urban suburbs. Besides these tours, there will be activities organized by the Architects' Order and other satellite events spread across the city.
In order to get the full participation of the sector, particular attention will be given to the relationship between architecture and other arts that are: cinema, thanks to the contributions of Amos Gitai, Paolo Vari and Davide Rapp; photography, with the presence of Oliviero Toscani, Paolo Rosselli, Antonio Ottomanelli; art, with the participation, among others, of the Albanian artist Adrian Paci; theater, thanks to a special event dedicated to Luca Ronconi, at the Teatro dell'Arte, curated by Margherita Palli and Giovanni Agosti, and a special program curated by Umberto Angelini.
An exhibition dedicated to the Florentine Vittorio Giorgini - the forerunner of the zoomorphic architecture - will be set up in the rooms of the Quadreria. Moreover, there will be meetings dedicated to the great Masters of architecture and culture such as Aldo Rossi and Ettore Sottsass and a great tribute to celebrate the 107 years of Gillo Dorfles (on Friday 16).
Furthermore, the topics of the Milan Arch Week will be different: suburbs, social inequalities, urban transformations, spaces of international conflict and the great challenge of reconstructing the Centro Italia. In the evenings, the Garden of the Triennale will be the place of further meetings, exhibits and shows.
Finally, the Milan Arch Week will end on Sunday morning with a preview visit to the new Palazzina realized in the perimeter of the Teatro Franco Parenti.
