Wienerberger Brick Award 2016: finalists announced

50 finalists have been announced for the 2016 edition of the well-established Wienerberger Brick Award, the biannual architectural award born in 2004 and honouring the most innovative brick architectural projects.

The winners will be proclaimed next 19th of May in Vienna, among more than 600 projects coming from 55 different countries. The award comprises five different categories: Residential Use, Public use, Re-Use, Urban Infill and Special Solution. Selected Italian projects are:

- Teatro di Danzica, Shakesperian Theatre Gdansk in Poland, by the architect Renato Rizzi from Rovereto (TN);

- Vellore House in India, by the architecture studio Bricolo Falsarella Associated;

- House G by the architect Lorenzo Guzzini.

An international jury of architects will select categories’ winners; assessment criteria include innovative exterior and interior design, skilful use of brick along with functionality, sustainability and energy efficiency. Special attention is also directed to how the building blends in with and positively influences the surroundings, and of course to the general quality of architecture.

In this seventh edition, jury members are: Laura Andreini (Archea Associati, Italy), Johan Anrys (51N4E, Belgium),  Matija  Bevk (bevk perovic arhitekti, Slovenia) and Alfred Munkenbeck  (Munkenbeck + Partners, United Kingdom).
