At the request of the architects Jotta and Jump, the Shape Studio conceived a futuristic and ultra-sustainable concept to create a space for innovation within the famous The Crystal, owned by the giant Siemens. The building, overlooking the Royal Victoria Dock in the east of London, contains a permanent exhibition on sustainable development.
The primary aim of the project is to reflect the bold architecture of the exteriors, besides respecting the strict environmental standards that make the building one of the most sustainable in Europe. The design team used innovative materials to meet these challenges, including the Bencore products for panels that are very light, light-permeable and with a made in Italy honeycomb coating that is completely customized.
Shape Studio created a complex Board Room that houses two sliding screens within a very small space. These screens can be moved with a single finger on the entire track, leaving no trace on the floor. The whole system of curved aluminum tracks and other furnishing elements have been designed, customized and finished by Shape Studio following the highest technical standards.
The material
LIGHTBEN PlusTM is an ultralight composite panel produced by coupling a core in transparent Polycarbonate consisting of cylindrical cells with covering leather in colorless transparent PETG and glossy or satin finishes; LIGHTBEN Plus™ is designed for indoor applications where fire resistance is required (Class 1 Italy, B1 Germany), besides the protection against UV rays from artificial or natural light sources through windows / skylights.
The particular structure of this product creates a partial transparency, which can vary according to the angle of view, while the external plates coupled to the honeycomb allow the modulation of the transmission of light in intensity and color. The panel LIGHTBEN Plus™ is easy to cut. Moreover, it can be completed with standard accessories such as profiles, frames, handles and hinges.
