Heat-insulating doors and shutters are the protagonists of a renovated villa in Vienna

A large amount of natural light and the breathtaking view on Vienna's roofs: this splendor brought a well-known surgeon towards the radical transformation of his residence, located in the exclusive “cottage district” of the Austrian capital.

The building - a four-story villa decorated with the sober Middle-European Liberty style -  has been completely renovated, maintaining only the façades. The energy system of the interiors have been carefully redeveloped, with the aim of minimizing consumptions and ensure the best comfort conditions for the entire family.

The most invasive interventions affected the large attic (now multifunctional and with a contemporary style) and the resulting changes of the roofing, which is equipped with openings that allow the entrance of the zenithal light and are half covered by a photovoltaic field.

The attic is a true oasis designed for the relaxation and well-being of family and friends. This spacious open space is also accessible by the internal lift and is articulated around the long kitchen block, whose tapered shape resembles that of a motorboat, and has large flat roof windows overlooking the urban landscape.

The three roof windows largely improve the aesthetic and functionality of this space: these are equipped with automated external rolling shutters that, thanks to the high performance, protect the underlying room from low winter temperatures as well as from summer rays.

"The view through FAKRO windows gives us a sense of spaciousness and tranquility - the owner explains - while the flat roof windows allow us to adjust the lighting and ventilation of the attic, depending on needs and weather conditions".

A glass wall separates the gym area, which contains also a whirlpool bath and a space for relaxation set around a fireplace. However, the most charming place is the sauna, placed in one of the smaller spaces of the old attic.

The windowless, dark and unattractive closet has become a little diamond of light and heat, also thanks to the two roof windows - facing the cherry tree in the garden and the city center’s roofs - and the high performance (in the sauna the internal temperature can reach and maintain 90 ° C).

The windows used for thermal insulation

For the renovation of the Viennese cottage FAKRO, the following products have been installed:

  • 3 flat roof windows, Model F DU6, award-winning products in the prestigious Red Dot Award, characterized by a modern design and excellent thermal insulation performance;
  • 2 roof windows, FTU L5, with hinged opening, Z-Wave remote control system for opening/closing and accessories management; plus rain sensor for automatic closing;
  • 1 roof window, FPU L5, equipped with a double opening system (pivoting and hopper-type) selectable by means of the PreSelect button, plus hinges that ensure the full stability of the shutter, in all positions;
  • 1 roof window, FNU L5, with a triple fixed glass that minimize thermal loss.
