Politecnica - architecture, engineering and urban planning - one of the major companies of integrated design with Italian capital, will lead an International Design group, including the engineering company EKJ in Copenhagen, for the expansion of the university and hospital center of Køge, a city south of Copenhagen, Denmark.
The project involves the expansion and reconstruction of the hospital, which will extend from approximately 64 thousand square meters and 296 beds to 185 thousand square meters and 789 beds. With this initiative, it will be possible to transfer all wards, first-aid station/emergency and research departments of the Region into a single new facility, which will be named Zealand University Hospital.
The Zealand University Hospital will be the largest hospital in the Region and among the largest in Northern Europe, with a total investment of 295 million euros. The complex will be a center of excellence in biomedical sciences research and will host hospital departments with a very high medical technology, as well as educational areas for university and congress users. The completion of the works is expected in 2024.
The project will be entirely carried out on the platform BIM (Building Information Modeling) to deal with the complexity of the intervention and integrate the different disciplines and the involved specialisms. The BIM model can give an efficient control of time and costs, greater coordination between customers, designers and companies, as well as a better quality of the final product.
