The winning project of the fourth edition of The Quinquennial Tile Award overlooks one of the most attractive South Africa coasts. This international competition was created by Fincibec Group, who awarded works of architecture built during the years 2011-2016 with ceramic products signed Monocibec, Century and Naxos, the three companies of the group.
Hesquin, this is the name of the villa located in Wilderness Western Cape, at the end of 2015, selected for the Award for the best materials used in the interior. It has been designed by BESPOKE design by Eddie da Silva architecture studio; it makes use of styling features that evoke a highly modern design. The large windows are in fact the first characterizing features: these are inserted into a structure which, although dominated by black, is light and bright, in perfect harmony with the dictates of contemporary architecture. Moreover, the full height transparencies provide a constant dialogue between interior and exterior, overlooking an outdoor area with pool and relaxing zone.
The design, intentionally minimal, in order to achieve the cleanest aesthetic, expressed itself by using a comfortable and elegant palette, the intentional asymmetry of the volumes, the straight roofs and the exclusive use of right angles. The final result is a space where order and linearity of forms dominate, and in which the extreme attention to detail stands out. Materials are the special features: these make it a functional building and up with the times, thus characterized by high-quality surfaces.
The selected ceramic slabs join the project with real stylistic coherence: the wood effect aesthetic of Woodtime (Monocibec) and that of Proxima (Century) including concrete and stone textures, united by the gray color indicated by the designer as a dominant theme for interiors, have given the right touch of personality to the spaces.
