The new Livingscapes research, led by Salone del Mobile.Milano Trend Lab, gives the concept of bespoke living – actualized by the so-called “Customized Home” – a remarkable place among the top three furniture’s macro trends, which inevitably play a role over the tendencies in furniture’s segments.
The focus is on the ever-growing degree of customization for spaces, objects and pieces of furniture by the end consumers, which live the domestic environments and demand them to be purposefully tailored upon their needs, even stylistically. Following this view, two related micro trends have been singled out: “Do it your way” and “FutureCraft Design”, reflecting respectively the concept of DIY and the merging of manual and digital into the production process.
The overview analyses many practical solutions provided by the world of design to meet the requirements of modern living, where the idea of adapting to diverse personal interpretations is essential. Let’s think of the lamp Alphabeta, created by the designer Luca Nichetto for Hem, or the Tetris House created by the architect Janjaap Ruijssenaars, a composable house prototype inspired by the famous game’s interlocking bricks, or lastly the modular sofa Rodolfo by Davide Negri and the lamp holders created with yarn by the low-tech machinery Lanna Factory, an intuitive leap by THINKK Studio.
